Cannot die/pass out due to editing saved files

Sorry if this has come up before.


Ok, I'm a disabled gentleman who loves this game, however, as I have to use my foot with my trackball and just 1 finger for keys, you can appreciate me having to cheat a bit because I kept dying/getting caught.


Has anyone played but cheated by editing the saved files to get unlimited health/etc?.... I'm at the bit where I'm meant to be thrown in jail after the ambush, however, I don't pass out. I tried editing the file to revert to the old values, but no go.


So, am I stuck? I'm so close to the end too!
