Doesn't work in Ubuntu Karmic

It ran fine in Jaunty, but now in Karmic I sometimes get choppy (or weird?) sound, and usually nothing shows when I try to load a game. Instead the "Loading..." inscription stays on forever, even though the sound plays in the background. When the graphics did show, they were distorted so I saw 3 copies of the subtitles, each smaller than the other. Many times when closing the game it either takes forever or freezes, not sure which.

In both Jaunty and Karmic I set the graphics settings to the lowest options. Tried in Karmic with both Metacity and Compiz, with identical results.
