I have nothing useful to contribute to the discussion as a whole but I cannot express how bad of an idea that is. In Canada, you could get fired (assuming you're an officer) for leaving your gun in a vehicle. Why? Someone could break in to your vehicle, steal your gun, and use it to carry out a crime. I sincerely hope the "leave it in their vehicle" is speculation and not what actually happens.
TL;DR don't leave your guns lying around for stealing
