Can't get string

Hi there. For some reason, when I try getting the cotton string from the box, it simply gives me the eye icon. I can look at the box all day, I cannot grab the string from it no matter what I do.

Any help? I know I need it to beat this area.

Hi Dante. Not sure about this, but did you read the book on explosives? You need to do this in order to be able to pick the string.

The book on it? Dang. I killed the dog, but didn't find any book. Did I look past it?

You can find this book in the office, inside the locked chest.
