RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
Urkle Wrote:Does anyone have an nvidia card? Seems like everyone here so far has an ATI. I guess I need to get my hands on an ATI PCIe card. As from the HPL log files I have gotten, there is like no descent detected support for shaders!. The *main* piece I'm looking for in log files i the "Checking Supported Profiles" So if people coud post with at LEAST that section along with what series mac and their video card.
BTW.. The tracker is backup.
I have an Nvida card.. I am downloading now and will let you guys know.

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
On my system:
PowerBook G4, 1.5 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM
ATI Radeon9700 Mobility w. 64 MB VRAM
OS X 10.4.9
there are graphical glitches right from the start. The map on the table and the cabin wall of the starting room are not visible. Sometimes they do appear (if I observed it correctly, its when the cursor is over an interacive item like the whisky bottle).
I attached a screenshot with the missing map and missing/blue cabin wall (I already picked up the other items) as well as my hpl.log file.

iMac G5 1.8Ghz with Nvidia5200 64MB video card and 768MB RAM.
I turned shader quality to low for an acceptable fps, but it still looks good.
No graphical glitches or anything, and the snow looks great

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
I have a Powerbook similar to Black Smurf's (1.67 and 128 M VRAM) and am experiencing the same issues in the cabin. After that, though, there weren't any glitches except the eye info text did not display. Also, the game crashed for me once during the intro movie, and it gave me a black screen after I go down the hatch twice.

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
doing this
"go to ~/Library/Preferences/Frictional Games/Penumbra Overture/Episode 1/ and open the settings.cfg file in TextEdit and locate the entry "UseThreading" by using find(cmd-f) and change True to False. Save the file and launch the game again and it should not crash anymore."
is a temporary solution for solving the intro and random crashes.

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
I have a 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo iMac with 2 GB Ram, an ATI X1600 graphic card and Mac OSX 10.4.9 (Intel).
I get really hard graphic disturbances with enabled shadows even on low graphic settings. But also with disabled shadows there are glitches.

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
seems like shaders doesnt work with ATI cards
i hope ill be able to test it with an ATI 9800 Pro 128MB
( turning off shadows worked finde thanks to kallas )
but the demo should be a little bit longer. it's too short to get a better impression of the game

Just a note to say the same thing happens as the above screenshots on my MacPro with an ATI x1900.

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
OK, Maybe you guys can help me. The main issue I have now is I don't have an ATI card to do testing. And I went down to the local Computer store (Fry's) and they have a plethora of cards, but only "one" labelled with Mac support (an ATI 9200 128MB and for $200). As I can't seem to find must useful information on apple's nor ATI/AMDs website, I am wondering will buying an X1650 WORK on OS X? I'm going to be calling up apple tomorrow to see if I can get a straight answer out of them, (also my mac mini died it's not been my weekend.. fan on my graphics card died on my main linux box too!!!)
Anyways.. Any thoughts on if I'd have any luck just slapping in "any old ATI video card" into my mac pro would work woudl be helpful, as I want to get this working on the ATI cards, since it seems a majority of the macs come with ATI rather than Nvidia.

RE: Mac OS X Demo Now Available (Beta 1)
Hi all, saw this on IMG and thought I give it a try. Unfortunately, I couldn't go very far, but from what little I managed to play - this is an awesome game! OK, here's my problem, this is after I exit the ship in the beginning and trudge through the snow (great snow, btw), find the hatch, open the hatch, go down the ladder: The screen goes black, I hear the hatch closing and other noises, than the game freezes; no keyboard commands or mouse control. I've had to force quit a couple of times (it's always in that same area). Any ideas? Am I just doing something wrong? Not patient enough? :-D
My machine is a Powerbook G4 1.33 mhz, 768 megs of ram, using a GeForce FX Go5200 with 64 megs vram.
Here's the log. Thanks for any help you have.
