RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion
Hello everyone! I must say I am really excited to play this game. The halloween teaser just blew me off haha. I can already see many fright nights by myself or with some friends. Doesn't matter, playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent, we were all scared, this I hope will be the same. ^^
I watched the video on 1080p HD, full screen. By stopping on some parts I have found out little details or how should I say. If you want to check it out for yourself you'll have to be really quick as it is hard to catch it at the right time. So 1st of at 0:37 (outside scenery), we can see a building in front. You can notice something saying on the board and I think it is Mandus Co. and beneath it "factory" and something before it. The same Mandus Co. can be seen on the left side of the screen where that metal fence and the trees are. Okay let's go on. At 0:38-0:39 there is something running towards left in that tunnel. I believe it is a child because it is really short, you can also see the red t-shirt (or is it just red because of the lights?). What do children have to do here... Next on at 0:45 is a strange thing walking past which probably everyone saw. It looks creepy and the way it walks, not moving the arms and stuff... Ugh. :I I think it's wearing some kind of mask. Well even if it's human I can believe it won't be friendly. And last but not least, the thingy at 1:41 and 1:47 (you'll have to be really precise here). If you stop at the right moment you can see that it has ears? Well humans have too, but I mean pig ones haha. And some kind of butcher's aron? I think it's not the same as other things seen before, because this one just looks huge. :SSS
This are just some of mine observings. Maybe I got some stuff wrong and the Amnesia staff is laughing at me now. Haha. Cheers!

RE: Amnesia:Justine: I want permadeath in the Machine for Pigs.
No thank you to Perma Death (PD).
As have already been said before me, PD adds more to frustration than it adds to fear.
...but, I'm all up for optional PD as long as it doesn't have any impact on the game/story if you should decide to turn it off.

Also, if any good quality custom stories are released, I'll play those as well.
Once I beat all those, well... I'll just play some online games like CS:GO, GTA IV Multiplayer with friends, Garry's Mod Deathrun and Hidden: Source with friends, although by the time I beat all those games listed above it'll probably be January 2013 already, because I am slow as hell when it comes to games like those, especially the Sonic games.
I've come to learn to not fear the living, nor the dead... But the monsters that hide in closets.

I think it's just red because of the lights :3 But a child walking about in there would be pretty freaky, especially if they're the monsters. I doubt it though, since the 0:45 'thing' didn't notice you-either it's blind, deaf, or just incredibly stupid, but that might just be a hallucination. Or maybe there are nice monsters in there? D
I think the 'ears' are pigs ears. I can't remember who it was, but whoever's making the sound for this game said in her twitter 'i'm making the soundtrack for a game about evil pigs.' Pigs. Not monsters, or mutilated humans. Just pigs. Could be me looking too much into stuff though P:
Anyway, my prediction is that Mandus turned his children into monsters too and now hallucinates them walking around scared looking for him. owo

On topic...
Aren't the tubes are too low-poly? I mean these...

...looks like a 8 sided pipes. I presume if they could be at least 16-sided it could be much better, they could look a lot nicer.

RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion
It's for performance Alex Ros. I assume they are using a lot of them, even in that scene, so having them a lower poly count helps a lot. I would've went with 10 sided, but that's just me =P That white line along them doesn't help the silhouette either, but rather make it look more hard-edged than a cylindrical surface. Still looks good. And model making proficiency:time helps them make these levels in much shorter time.

(11-27-2012, 07:27 PM)Statyk Wrote: It's for performance Alex Ros... I was keeping that in mind of course. But, first, I presume there's a lot of possibilities to lower overall polycount. The tubes aren't the best way as I personally see it. Second, HPL engine technically is a lot more sensitive not to polycount, but to real time dynamical shadows, complicated particles and textures budget.
I am not trying to say that I want next-gen high-poly models. I do not care about that. But I think the HPL engine is optimized enough to not to use really noticeable low-polys. "Noticeable" is a key word.
Anyway, low or high polys - if seriously it would not make the game bad or good. It's just details.
