As for the green water there are several different water textures you can choose from, just create a plane and go to /textures/Water and it will give you several textures to choose between.
I think he hasn't placed a liquid area in his water texture.
Go to "Areas" tool and in the droparrow in the top right, change "script" to "liquid" and match the size of the area with the height and depth of the water.
