Animating in AutoDesk Maya 2012

I'm using Maya to model a quick headless guy I made in about 2 hours.
I already added a skeleton and rigged him. the joints seem to be working except for when I move his right leg his axe's handle twists away.

I tried animating him and it's super confusing.
I want to make a animation of him walking foward.
I press S to set the first keyframe then select the next frame, I then select his leg joint then the keyframes I already set vanish.

Is there a video tutorial for idiots?

First and foremost. Maya 2012 does not support OpenCollada, which is necessary to have your model imported correctly into Amnesia. I know you're probably going to not like this, but I suggest exporting your model to either a .obj or .fbx. Export to both to be safe, as well as make a Maya Binary save (.mb/.ma). Then uninstall Maya 2012 and install Maya 2011. You're going to need the OpenCollada plugin, then import the model back in. After that, we'll get to the questions.

Such as, have you weight painted the model's joints yet?

the keyframes I already set vanish.
1) This is due to improper weightpainting. You want to go into Skin>Paint Weights tool. This tells the model which vertices on the mesh are affected by each bone.

2) The time slider will only show the keyframes for the selected bone. If you keyframe his arm, then select his leg, the keyframe will "disappear". That's because it's showing the keyframes for the leg. When you select his arm again, they keyframe will "appear".

ah, i see now.
so how can i animate properly for various bones in one animation for like a running style, you can't do that animation with only one bone.

You have to go joint by joint.
