Trading subscriptions on Youtube - Worth it?

Someone sent me a message on Youtube offering to subscribe if I subscribe. This guy has 35,000 subscriptions, so it may be good advertising, but I don't know whether this practice is frowned upon or not.(New to the LP community)

Your thoughts?

This is generally frowned upon. If I were you, I wouldn't do it.

As of September 2nd, 2014, I've left the Frictional forums. Check my profile for more details.

You subscribe to him, he subrscibes to you. You wait for few hours and then un-subscribe.

How about you start slowly and produce good quality content, you will gain subsribers over time if this is what you do.

Subscribe for subscribing is terribly dumb as you most likely will not enjoy eachothers content.

Thanks everyone for their input. I have decided to not follow on his offer.

RE: Trading subscriptions on Youtube - Worth it?

A while back I did a game giveaway on my own channel and, among other requirements to win, I told everyone to subscribe. I got something like ninety new subscribers in about a week, which was an unprecedented rate for me, but soon enough I realized it was a really fucking empty victory. Having subscribers is nice because it means that somebody somewhere probably cares about your videos, but your actual subscriber count is a worthless number. I was actually glad when I made a video that ended up pissing about thirty of them off.

It's much more rewarding to end up with a handful of interested viewers who don't force themselves to subscribe in any way--you may even make some good new friends like that--than to shoehorn in your own popularity.

Only about 30% or less of your (plural) subscribers ever watch your (plural) videos anyway.
