First off, yes his is. Just because the gender might be differently focused, doesn't make it wrong to like the show. How would you feel if a show was made, and it's target audience was Mexicans(never gonna happen but still). You happen to like the show, but others negatively judge you for watching it. Also, Rocko's Modern Life mother-fucker! That show may have been targeted at little kids, but most of it's jokes are actually more sophisticated. (About the nature of media and entertainment, also economical and government issues are noticeable as well)
I don't like MLP because "OMGOSH, FUCKING RAINBOWS!!", it draws me in since it's one of the few shows nowadays that retains substance. It isn't just mindless drivel, and if you don't know what I mean by that, go ahead and watch MLP Generation 3. I DOUBLE-DARE YOU, MOTHER-FUCKER!

MLP (G4) is a good show. Its animation is good, the voice-acting is good, the episodes' plots are usually interesting and relatable and the characters are surprisingly human.

Even though it's not targeted at you, it's still better than most shit on TV.

The reason he's frustrated is because ever since the show became popular, many things on the Internet have become "ponified", or made into ponies. I've seen a pony covered in blood and guts with a shotgun. I'm not trying to start anything, but some of the things like that are really starting to worry me. My Little Pony was intended for small girls, and people have to go out of their way to make disgusting things out of it.
