Prototype [the first] story

So I am planning on getting Prototype 2 later on today but I have not played a whole lot of Prototype (the first game). The reason I am skipping the first because [for the PC - the version I have] the game is glitched to hell. The sound files are messed up (some file organization garbage issue) and it has not been batched... even after fixing it - it is not worth all of the other issues... anyway could someone help me understand the story of the first game?

Alex Mercer, a scientist in the Gentek laboratories, who gets "revived" by a powerful virus that causes an outbreak (the outbreak being caused by Alex himself). The virus reanimates him, and makes him extremely powerful.

Most of the game then evolves around Alex getting more and more powerful, while completing missions and getting past certain obstacles (like the parasite that prevents you from using your abilities).
