RE: Upgrading my graphics card?

I am only going to use one monitor, its resolution is 1440x900. I want to play a lot of high graphic games. For some reason I can only play GTA IV on medium settings with the screen resolution down to 1280x720, which keeps me at 40 FPS. Would the GTX 660 2 GBs be able to play it max settings?

I'd assume with a GTX 660 + at least 16gb to compliment it nicely and I'd assume he has something between a 4-8 core computer (plus if he had two monitors and never unplugged them), you'd want at least 800, especially if you run it on Max SSAO, AA, (and all other highest graphics quality). For example, and this happened recently, my girlfriends computer busted her supply due to her over powered system AND she elected to play BF3 (yeah, I know, that's WAY more intensive than Amnesia, but still).

Then again, I'm assuming he has a stronger computer, PS is probably good enough. I was just suggesting to check into it.

The GTX 660 Ti consumes about 50 watts more than the GTX 660. The Telsa consumes about 100 watts more than the GTX 660. According to the Dell website, he should be running on a 460 watt power supply, with 8 gigs of RAM, a i7-3770 (quad core) and all common peripherals. 800 watts would be for SLI configurations (with room to spare, depending on the amount of graphic cards).

You should be able to play at "max" settings, 1080p or more (2GB is generally recommended for resolutions higher than 1080p), and get decent performance.

Ok, now I know I have to get a new power supply so, how many watts should it be?

Are the parts mentioned in this thread the only new parts you plan on getting for the next few years?

Is the graphics card the only major upgrade you plan on making for the next few years and only purchasing one GTX 660 within that time?

Yes, that was actually the only upgrade I was going to do. I don't really think I will have to upgrade anything else.

In that case, you won't need more than 550 watts. I'd recommend a modular PSU, as i don't expect you to do as great of a job as Dell may have done with the cable management. Brand names i recommend include Corsair, XFX and Thermaltake, but go by reviews anyway. I'd also recommend trying to get a PSU that is at least 80 Plus BRONZE. If you can't find a 550 watt PSU, then go for 600, but don't go overboard (e.g. 800) if you can't find that either. Keep in mind that any power not used from the PSU gets converted into heat. The Dell case you have is designed where the PSU pulls in air from inside the case (which is bound to be warm already) and not cool air from outside the case. The temperatures from the new graphics card, especially since we're talking about NVIDIA, will increase the temperature inside the case. You wouldn't want 300 or more watts being converted into heat.

Ok, thanks.

RE: Upgrading my graphics card?

Sorry for bumping this, but I am finally upgrading my graphics card and i need to know what kind of power supply I will need. The graphics card I am getting is a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 2GB.

Edit: Never mind, after rereading the thread you already told me, again sorry for bumping.
