.mat still not appearing in the file!

Mudbill the mat file is still not working, I tried re installing it but it's no use. This is really weird but I sent you message leading to this post I think so these are the attachments/images that have to be mat. and can you make the "oldwood" wood squeaky in the mat editor, since it's old wood? thanks

RE: .mat not appearing in the file!

Are you using the beta editors? If so they may contain bugs like these.

Otherwise, perhaps they were saved in a different location. When you go to Save As, is the directory the same as the .jpg? It should be by default, but perhaps it changed.

You don't want to use .jpg, convert to .dds, preferably DXT1 format for diffuse textures.

RE: .mat not appearing in the file!

I tried searching if it's stored in another location, but it's not! The material editor is not creating a mat file and I have the newest version of the material editor and tried doing the images dds but then they won't appear in the editor not even a png image! why?

Pardon me for somewhat straying here, but I thought DXT4 was preferred? I haven't been working that much with dds files yet so I might be wrong, but do you know anything more about this compression? As far as I know, DXT1 only has opaque alpha, which I suppose is good for textures that don't require translucency (and in this case especially, because JPEG).

Personally I've been using DXT4. I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with doing so. I suppose DXT1 creates smaller file sizes than DXT4, so if you don't have any use for alpha, that's why it's preferred. Am I right?

When you say newest version, I suppose you're talking about the ones on the tools download page and not the beta page?

When you're trying .dds, did you make it correctly? Also, are you using a resolution powered by 2(for example 512x512 or 1024x1024)?

RE: .mat not appearing in the file!

Yes I got it from the beta page actually, I have the MaterialEditor131111 and they appear great in the material editor. they are cubic images and I tried restarting my computer and doing it all over again but it won't create a mat file. if so, can anyone convert these 2 images into .mat files pls and send them to me, cause I can't find a fix of why it's not workingUndecided

thanks Wink

RE: .mat not appearing in the file!

I could probably do it once I get home in a few hours unless anyone has done it by then.

However, it still doesn't fix the issue. It would be best to get it resolved. Did you try using the regular MaterialEditor? Using that will still make them compatible with the rest of the beta.

RE: .mat not appearing in the file!

Thanks, and I already tried but there's no fix why it's not creating the mat files. the material editor worked before, but now it's not for no apparent reason, I don't know why. I have a planes folder in my custom story and I save it as Kitchen.mat, but it won't appear Confused

RE: .mat not appearing in the file!

So when you save it, it does not appear?

Perhaps try this; but instead of running the Level Editor as an admin, run the Material Editor.

If that doesn't work, try saving the material somewhere else (like the desktop) and drag it into your planes folder.
