Personally, I'd definitely go with Emerald. Warioware inc. Is fun, but it's a lot more fun when playing with friends. I've heard the FF-series is pretty good, but I haven't tried it.

I've only played Emerald, but I highly recommend it.
This generation had so many cool things... Most of the legendaries, don't you just bump into... You actually have to find them! And the secrets!

And I guess I'll have to go for Emerald. =P Also, I can't help but saying Metroid Prime Hunters was easily my favorite DS game of all time. The controls were REALLY nice once you understood them, then playing multiplayer... I used to play the sniper character (can't remember the name) and get headshots all day. UGH... Miss playing that.
EDIT: I think I actually may go for Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Totally forgot about that one... I'd have to say I love Zelda games a bit more than pokemon

Oh yes, you should definitely get that first. It's not as long as Pokemon but much more fun.
