Model Editor Help First Custom Story!

First Custom Story!

I hope this community isn't dead. I just joined, so I'm looking forward to seeing some awesome stuff... at any rate, however, I am building a short custom story to get used to all the different features. However, I'm thinking about creating a custom enemy for the game, but I read a few of the forums and people are talking about .mat? files and texture limits or something that I have no idea about...

Basically what I want to know are the basic steps you use for creating an enemy or NPC... At first I thought it was as simple as creating your character in blender, exporting to a .dae and importing into model editor to add bones, joints and animations. I don't need a full, detailed explanation, just a general overview... thanks in advance!

(Also, starting to learn programming (actually c#) so I figured this would be a good way to get used to scripting and such... so far it seems like it's gonna be a long road, Big Grin)

I have to tell you, it is not easy to make a custom monsters.
You need to learn about the .spec files, 3d texturing, etc.
I'm not sure how good you are, but I think you are good in modelling?!
Since i'm too bad, with texturing... I don't know everything...
But some basics are, don't put "lights" somehwere in the file you create the "Monster" Because hpl2 engine only supports their own light (I think)
I'm not expert at this, not even good lol.

Oh... haha, thanks for the replies! I didn't expect it to be easy, I mean it hardly ever is. But I get it, maybe I will try to just build a few generic entities and if that works, try an NPC. I don't have my hopes up for it anyways, just thought it would be nice.

Don't be sad! When you get more experience you can make an NPC.

Stick with your idea for about a month, generic entities from blender is always easy to do...
