Plot twist: You will be an alien/sentient program/robot, hunted down by humans and machines of both human and alien origin. You'll be considered the lowest form of intelligent life by almost everyone. :p

I really like the the overall tone of the trailer, it's very different from what's expected from a space station setting, which would be something very cold and clinic. There it seems very organic and warm, a bit romantic almost (in the 19th century sense). We're probably in for disturbing distorsions of reality.

They kind of do already. But in the tradition of Lovecraft, they leave that stuff to the imagination. It kind of ruins the fun if you play a game that puts you on the footsteps of madness, because that makes the player a hero, or a fighter, not a victim of circumstance.

I have a feeling that could provoke a small religious flame war in some gaming communities, but it depends what god your talking about.

I always saw The Tuurngait as a lovecraftian god from another universe, which fits perfectly with their love of Lovecraft.

But if Goog meant the christian god then...I have bad news for him. Lovecraft wasn't very ''nice'' towards christianity. I expect a game from FG that had religious commentary to be very much against the idea of a christian god. But that's me inferring from their love of old Howard.

It's pretty clear that FG isn't on the religious side of things. They have a skeptical belief in the soul, which is sort of what SOMA is about ("if the soul exists, it must be intertwined with the brain, and can it be transported to different bodies? etc.") The game is going to be exploring the logic of the soul and I imagine that's going to piss off a lot of people.

Frictional Games is a sadistic deity, creating entire virtual universes where the intrinsic point is for vulnerable characters to suffer terribly in the name of entertaining its fellow beings. These poor characters can never ever hope to fight back, let alone grasp the truth of their insignificance, and the best thing they can hope for is the oblivion of never being played.
We are the Outer Gods.
