RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
Oh I just remembered:
There was this one X-Files episode I watched a while ago about a bug creature thing that flickers in and out of reality and could only been seen by one guy. There was a creepy scene where it moved across a ceiling and it looked as if animated in stop motion. Plus there was another scene where the bug is flickering behind someone and you could see it's face.
Scared me a bit when I saw that thing.

Yeah, flickering shit is just generally scary as hell.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread
I take the quote about Lovecraft to mean a couple of things:
-There's going to be a lot of exposition, presumably via text along with other means. Hopefully we'll also get audio logs and direct interaction with characters this time.
-The story and setting will, once again, contain elements of Lovecraftian horror. I'm guessing that means an intellectual protagonist and the presence of inscrutable aliens.
So it's a futuristic version of a Lovecraft tale. Into The Mountains of Madness in space?

Jacob's Ladder also did a great job at "unnatural movement" and I remember ghosts in the Messengers moved like that in a few scenes.
Wasn't it Jacobs Ladder which invented that effect?
