How is it he doesn't implode after his deep sea diving suit gets compromised while he is in the abyss?

I saw that question posed on the Steam forums.

The best guess I can come up with is that the suit is segmented or designed in a way that being structurally compromised in just one limb will not cause a full and complete failure of the suit integrity.

I don't know why it bothers me so much but I wish they would have hinted towards that being the case.
