if you keep listening to more punk stuff that'll probably change tho
I just feel that if an element of a song such as the vocals sounds atrocious, then the composer has failed to do their job. The worst thing is that so often are shitty vocals prized -- for some stupid ass reason. Another thing that annoys me is that one of my friends adores a band called White Chapel, and wishes for me to love it as well. He has me often listen to their songs and when I ridicule them he states, "One of the best things about their songs is the lyrics." Well that would be fine and dandy IF I COULD FUCKING UNDERSTAND THEM!
harsh vocals just open up a whole other spectrum to music that clean vocals can't even come close to capturing as well. anger, frustration, depression, etc. which is why i tend to prefer them most of the time actual (at least with genres of music where they fit). once you've adapted to them it opens up a whole new side of music which is incredibly fun to explore and discover, cause learning your taste is always fun. and there definitely is different tastes in harsh vox, for example i generally like higher range screechy stuff and yelling/shouting, whereas i think lower range stuff with grunts and growls tends to sound like poopoo (there are a few exceptions of course)
but for example, i don't think i could find a single artist with clean vocals that manages to portray hate and aggression this well through music:

or depression and anxiety this well:

or chaos and insanity this well:

so yeah that's my basic idea behind why i think when used well they can be way better than anything with clean vox. like i said though since you're already into a lot of cool punk shit (which already has fairly haphazard vocals most of the time) you might appreciate them one day
and white chapel suck ass anywho so don't worry about that lol
