So a horse carriage in the 18th century should be called a car?

you might be surprised, but carriages were sometimes called cars

as for chipper - i checked few eng-rus dictionaries and they all went with giving me an alternate for "chisel" as one of the meanings. So either it was an old translation error in several english-other language dictionaries, or it actually is an old slang or official term for this tool. But i'd like to hear the devs explanation on this

I never said anything about being anachronistic, merely that one can either call it a chipper or a chisel without being blatantly wrong. In fact, seeing as there are stone chippers and wood chisels, it could be a case of a stone chipper.

It is blatantly wrong. These things sometimes happen when text is translated into other languages. The accepted name for the tool is a chisel.

Nobody calls a chisel a chipper, go to Google and do an image search. You'll get pages and pages of wood chipping machines, golf clubs, baseball players and even pets. What you won't get is a chisel. Ditto for Wikipedia.

Calling a tool that chips something a chipper is perfectly fine. Remember, this game is set in the 1840's and there is no such thing as a chipper machine.

Look at this page of a manufacturer of stone chisels. Notice how they use the word CHIPPER several times?

I believe Chipper vs. Chisel is a localisation thing. Like Cookies vs. Biscuits.
