How do I get Mods to work

Hello,

I am trying to play penumbra and converted based mods for Amnesia: The Dark Decent, and they won't show up in the custom story launcher in the menu. I did not buy Amnesia from steam, I bought it from the Mac App Store since I have a Mac Os X pro 10.9.5. How do I fix this. Does it have to do with the depending unRAR archiver app, does it have to do with compatibility, or may it have bugs/glitches? I need someone who posts solutions to answer this thread. Thank you.
