Awesome story! I really hope you continue it, I want to found out more about the (cannibalistic) family, intriguing storyline so far. The booby-trapped chests were a very good inclusion and the ending was extremely frantic and fun.
Different this time around. Changes in the note texts really make a difference in the developing mood. I think in the initial version I was expecting less horror because of the "family love" theme rather than this "hospitable stranger" backstory.
Either way, I agree with Tenno, it makes one want to find out more.
Heh, unfortunately the game title is just a remnant of the old plot I had in mind for this story: it no longer really means anything and is just there as a placeholder name because I was too lazy to change it.
I was given the beta to test by Homicide, and I can safely say that this story brought forth some feelings of fear and intrigue. The concept Homicide wraps his story around really causes the player to think about what's happening.
Spoiler below!
As far as the actual scares go, I found that I ran into a number of jump-scares that caused me to take a sharp intake of breath, for I wasn't expecting them. Mini-heart attacks were doled out accordingly, and not frequently. Yes, they exist, and it's a cheap method of frightening the player, but it works rather well when the player isn't confronted with many within a short amount of time.
As I played, I found that I felt panicked in a couple of different situations. Namely, the area where the player must navigate through a maze of doors and avoid the monsters, as you hear them smash their way toward you. Clever monster placement in later maps forced me to check every corner, fearing I would run into something that would slaughter me. I'm not saying what happens, because that's evidently further than the demo, but I will say it invoked a feeling of dread as I turned every corner.
In short, Homicide is creating a fairly good custom story. He draws out emotions from the player in appropriate situations as well as crafting an interesting story for the player to follow. I eagerly anticipate the full release of this custom story, and hope Homicide can continue to do what he's already done.
thanks for the review obliviator27! I will hopefully have this story released within the month, and if not by then then it should definably be out by the and of the month after.
