Stuck in Part 4 feeding the beast: can’t get past broken steam pipe

In Part 4, after you pick up the can of gasoline, how do you get past the broken steam pipe spewing steam from the wall? I’ve tried crawling under the steam, jumping over it, and blocking it with pallets as I walk by. Nothing works. Help!
