Story & Atmosphere

As we all knew, Amnesia have a very good story and a cruel deep atmosphere.
I think, this are the main things a good game should have.
Now, Frictional is making a new game with an other setting in core.

Today, there is a new trailer of the game from my street (it will be developed in the near of my home).

Story and Atmosphere in this game are very good too. It will not be a pure horror game but it have a very fantastic look i think.

Frictional should watching this it could be that they like it.
How important is a dense atmosphere for you in games?

RE: Story & Atmosphere

Nice! I had completely missed that they made the sequel pirate-themed. I am getting this as soon as it hits the stores. I am a big fan of the Gothic/Risen games and I agree, they have great atmosphere and I love how every little quest seems to matter somehow.

Imo, Gameplay (which is a big thing) > Story > Level Design > Graphics > Sound

I disagree. Even if the story is the best, you won't finish it because of terrible gameplay. Gameplay, the fun, or in this case the horror should be first, especially considering different people react and interpret story in MANY different ways.

RE: Story & Atmosphere

I've completed Silent Hill 1 countless times despite its terrible gameplay, and I mastered steel pipe. I could kill anything with only steel pipe. Silent Hill 2 is being taken as ART, though its combat mechanic sucks. Cryostasis shutters too much, unoptimized, but is a masterpiece.

I'm not talking about horror. I'm talking about a game's priority. If it manages to cover its bad aspects, then it has no bad aspects.

People today are generally retarded. If you don't believe me look at this.

I believe you about people. But as a game, gameplay should be the most important aspect, as it's what sets it apart from other genre's - it's interactivity. For me, my favourite games have been the ones with a brilliant mix of the most important aspects.

Absolutely abysmal gameplay can ruin a great story, see Call of Cthulhu on the PC. but for me simply passable gameplay with a stellar story will rate higher with me than a game with stellar gameplay and an only passable story; I like Silent Hill 2 better than Borderlands.
