Don't cheat, take them in the right other instead! One of them is always off, take them in this order:

Goal
9,10,11
8
7
6
23
145
Start

Um, just maybe you posted this in the wrong thread... Or this is the most cryptic advice I have ever received.

RE: Steam: Crash when entering the Infirmary - ShaggyMoose - 06-25-2009

No news on this? I am only half way through the series and would like to continue. Sad

RE: Steam: Crash when entering the Infirmary - KyleMac - 06-28-2009

I just upgraded by CPU, RAM, stuck in an SSD and installed Windows 7 RC 64bit (and Catalyst 9.6) and now my game is working fine (well I've only played for 30 seconds, I just wanted to check that I'd recovered my save games successfully).

You could try the Catalyst 9.6s but I doubt they're the solution.

Windows 7 has different UAC stuff so you could try turning off UAC to get past this point. Back on Vista 64bit I tried running the game as admin and in every compatiblity mode which made no difference, but maybe UAC is the problem.

Finally, you could try installing Vista 32bit or Windows 7 RC 64bit Sad.

I'm now more excited about finishing this series than playing whatever latest thing will stress my computer!

EDIT: If it's not a 64bit (specific to Vista) or UAC problem, then maybe it is something to do with going from dual core to quad core or hyperthreading or whatever (even though I had all that turned off).

Thanks for the update. I also tried running as administrator, but it didn't help me either. Not going to be changing the OS. I guess I will try updating my drivers at some stage, but I am always wary I will break something else...

Glad to hear its working for you anyway. Smile

RE: Steam: Crash when entering the Infirmary - ShaggyMoose - 07-23-2009

I upgraded to the newly released Catalyst 9.7 drivers and now it works.

RE: Steam: Crash when entering the Infirmary - Tintin - 01-20-2011

I've also been having this issue. I updated my video and sound drivers from the manufacturer's websites and the game still crashes as I try to enter the Infirmary (Penumbra: Black Plague).

My computer:
3Ghz Athlon 64
Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT
2GB RAM
Windows XP

--Black Box pop-up window--

Error message below: (ellipsis indicate more to message)
Exception Reason
penumbra.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module

Someone please help! I've really enjoyed this second installment and I wish to play the rest of the game very soon.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

If this is on Steam, try and verify the cache integrity. If not on Steam, perhaps re-install or make sure you are running the latest version of black plague. http://support.frictionalgames.com/entry/70/

RE: Steam: Crash when entering the Infirmary - Tintin - 01-20-2011

Yes, it's the Steam version.
Okay, I've verified the cache integrity in Steam.

It reads:
100% complete - 19 files failed to validate and will be reacquired.

Steam mentions "navigating to your Steam user directory: ..\Steam\steamapps\[USER NAME]\ and either renaming or deleting your game folder."
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
But the only game folder listed there (under my Steam user name) is Team Fortress 2!

What's the next step?
So confused.
Thanks

You delete the games by right-clicking on it within Steam, if you want to remove it.
