Bizarre problem with menus and framerate. - KnowHope - 09-11-2013 I haven't seen this specific issue anywhere, so I'm making a thread. It seems like menus are screwing up my framerate. At least, that's how it looks. Upon starting the game, I can be running at 60FPS, but when I go into any menu (pause, journals, etc...) and then back to the game, my FPS drops to 30 and won't return to 60 unless I wait for long enough (and sometimes it doesn't appear to correct itself at all). But it'll be fine when in a menu again. I've tried changing "LimitFPS" to false, but coming out of menus still causes the FPS to stick at 30. It wouldn't have anything to do with my specs; my PC is more than capable. Any ideas? Anyone getting the same thing? RE: Bizarre problem with menus and framerate. - plutomaniac - 09-11-2013 Do you have vSync enabled? If you have an Nvidia graphics card there is a bug with game Adaptive vSync interfering with game's option. It will be fixed soon. Yeah, I have vSync on in the game options, AND I've forced it on in the nVidia control panel after reading that the control panel version helps more with screen tearing. Should I disable one of them? As for the fix, do we have confirmation that one is coming? RE: Bizarre problem with menus and framerate. - plutomaniac - 09-11-2013 Yes from developer Jens. Can't find it now, too many threads today RE: Bizarre problem with menus and framerate. - KnowHope - 09-11-2013 Ok, after turning the vSync to Off in the nVidia control panel, I don't appear to get the issue anymore. It stays at 60FPS regardless, judging by the brief test, anyway. But of course the screen-tearing comes back. Currently, this means playing with either screen-tearing (but 60FPS), or 30FPS (but no screen-tearing). And it seems to depend on whether the vSync is on or off. This is all with "LimitFPS" set to true, by the way. I'm wondering if you can get the best of both worlds by turning the vSync on to remove screen-tearing, but uncapping the frame rate for 60FPS all the time (EDIT: You can't). In any case, I do hope it's at least looked into. RE: Bizarre problem with menus and framerate. - jens - 09-11-2013 If you run with apadtive vsync then you will not get this problem. If you run without adaptive vsync you will get either 30 fps or 60 fps with "regular" vsync that is unfortunately how it works for the game. I'm running with adaptive vSync and I still get screen-tearing. I get 60FPS but I still get screen-tearing. I have Vertical Sync and Adaptive vSync switched on in the game options. vSync is off in the control panel (otherwise I'll only get 30FPS, as I said). I assume when you say that it's unfortunate, you mean that this game just can't be played with 60FPS and no screen-tearing? I mean, in the current state, it's not too bad and it's certainly playable, but yeah. RE: Bizarre problem with menus and framerate. - plutomaniac - 09-12-2013 It must be a known problem as it happens to be as well. I guess it's probably on the bug list waiting to be fixed. |
