I agree with you people here, jumpscares does not make the custom story good. They can make it better if they, like Traggey said, make sense. I don´t think people should avoid using jumpscares, they should change how they use them. There´s a simple model used by gamedevelopers, moviemakers, writers etc. you start up the story: introduce characters, plot, goals etc. From there you intensify the game, making it more and more exiting, everything leading to some sort of climax where it all escalates. Here is the perfect place to use jumpscares. After the climax, you tail off the game and finish the story. You don´t have to use this model but it is easy to use and it is very helpful.
