[Fan Updates] Adam's Custom Story Updates v0.1
Hey guys!
I have decided to take up the task of going through popular custom stories and proofreading the grammar, correcting hundreds of mistakes and making many portions easier to understand. I also check all the subtitles to make sure they match exactly with what was spoken. At the same time, I make sure to change as little of the core story as possible, leaving the experience as intended by the author. I take no credit for creating any of these custom stories, I am simply making them look nicer.
To Install:
Non-Steam Users:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of the custom story you want to play installed.
2. Extract the files to either Program Files/Amnesia - The Dark Descent/redist/custom_stories for regular patches, or extract the files to the redist folder if you are using a patch for a full conversion mod.
3. Make sure that you overwrite any files when asked. If you are not asked to overwrite any files, you are probably not installing them to the write place.
Steam Users:
1. Pretty much the same as above. Install the files to either your custom story folder (probably located at C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/amnesia the dark descent/custom stories) for regular patches, or to the main amnesia folder for full conversion patches.
2. Make sure that you overwrite any files when asked. If you are not asked to overwrite any files, you are probably not installing them to the write place.
Feel free to request any mod you would like proofread. This page will constantly be updated as I continue going through custom stories.
Note: If you wish to uninstall (for whatever reason) simply download the original game files and overwrite the new ones. Your progress should remain intact.
Abduction:
50-100~ grammatical/spelling errors corrected. Over 100 double spaces fixed, and several small tweaks made for clarity. *Taken down at request of CS author Anxt*
The Attic - Chapter One:
50-100 grammatical errors corrected. Edited to ensure a consistent feel across all of the notes.
Download
The Attic - Chapter Two:
50+ grammatical/spelling errors corrected. Several sections edited for clarity.
Download
Cannibalism:
Over 150~ grammatical/spelling errors corrected. Several sections edited for clarity, and item names changed to sound better. 2-3 hours of work.
Download
Dark Room 1:
Not a whole lot to fix here, lol. But I did correct the grammar and changed the intro a bit, so why not use it?
Download
Insidious:
~50 grammatical corrections made, and several sections edited to be much more clear than what they were. It might not match exactly the original text, but it looks much, much better in my opinion.
Download
The Interrogation Chapter 1:
150+ grammar/spelling corrections. Subtitles tweaked extensively to match perfectly with what was spoken. Three hours of work.
Download
Killings In Altstadt(FC):
50-100 grammatical/spelling errors correct. Subtitles tweaked extensively to match perfectly with what was spoken. 1.5 Hours of work. This is for the FC only, if you really need it for the CS version, PM me.
Download
La Caza:
Over 100 grammatical errors corrected; subtitles tweaked to match the spoken words exactly. Three hours of work.
Download
Poisonous:
100-150 grammatical errors corrected. Several edits made for clarity. Subtitles tweaked extensively to match exactly what was spoken. Two hours of work.
Download
The Small Horse I - The Escape:
25~ grammatical/spelling errors corrected. Certain intentional errors left intact, as they felt essential to the "feel" of the story.
Download
The Small Horse II-A - The Abuse:
25-50~ grammatical/spelling errors corrected. Certain intentional errors left intact, as they felt essential to the "feel" of the story.
Download
This Darn House!
200+ grammatical/spelling errors fixed. Fixed Crazy Random Word Capitalization In Every Word Of Every Sentence. A few small tweaks made for clarity.
Download
White Night:
Over 200-300 grammatical errors corrected. Subtitles edited to match perfectly with what was spoken. Over 10 hours of work.
Download
If you find my work helpful, I would greatly appreciate a +rep, if you think I deserve it.
*If you are a Custom Story author and would like to use this patch in your work, feel free. Just give me a mention in the credits. Also, if you are an author of one of the stories I have created a patch for and would like it removed, simply contact me by PM.

You might want to ask the developers before doing these types of things man... especially when adding yourself to the credits of someone's story. Also, our patches already consist of a 1.2.

I approve this project.
And thanks. If I ever update La Caza, I'll include you in the credits.

RE: [Fan Updates] Adam's Custom Story Patches v0.1
Couple of things:
1. The download link you provided for Abduction does not contain any files for Abduction. I think it has the .lang file for The Attic. So, there's that.
2. I don't think this should be done without the author's permission. If you had asked me if you could go back and proofread my story, I may have been ok with it, though to my knowledge there are not many grammatical errors that weren't on purpose. I must admit, I am not a fan of people going through my work and telling me what is wrong about a year after it has been released. I admit there are likely a few mistakes. 50-100? You'd have to show me all of those, because I can't see it being that bad.
Sorry, I'm just a touch insulted that I wasn't informed/asked about this before you went through it. There are several mistakes that I made on purpose for the sake of puzzles or an intentional lack of clarity to make the player think. So again, I don't see any file related to my mod, so I can't really say anything else, but in the future, I would very much suggest speaking with the authors before going through the mods.

Thanks for your input, I'll see what's up with that file. First of all, I'm not trying to "tell you whats wrong" as you put it, I'm simply providing a service in my own spare time that I would do for myself anyways and providing the results for the community. I've put many hours of work into this, and do my utmost to try and keep as close to the core story as possible (not removing intentional mistakes) I'm sorry you feel that I'm going about it the wrong way. Also, you should keep in mind, that many of these mod authors have long since given up on amnesia/rarely, if ever, respond to PMs.
Again, sorry you're insulted, but at this moment I have no plans of changing the way I run this. I'd be lucky to get out a mod a day, let alone six. If you'd like your DL link removed, that is fine. Send me a PM and I'll make sure no one else can download it, ever.
Have a good day.

RE: [Fan Updates] Adam's Custom Story Patches v0.1
I don't think there's anything wrong with proofreading the lang files for mods, but I do think there is something wrong with doing it before asking, then putting up a file for download without the author's permission. For example, in my case, you put up the wrong file. Now, if people download that, they will replace my lang file with The Attic's, and nothing will make sense. This needs to be done privately, and with the author's consent.
Again, I don't care if you want to proofread Abduction. It could probably use it, though to my knowledge there aren't many issues. But you MUST ask permission, through PM or otherwise, before posting download links.
I am not trying to insult you. But please understand where I am coming from.

I am not trying to insult you. But please understand where I am coming from. I understand the risk in uploading the wrong file. Rest assured, if the three people who downloaded the corrected version of your mod encountered any errors, all they had to do was redownload and reinstall the mod from mod db, as I explained in the first post of this thread.
Again, thanks for your input, but unlike you, some people appreciate someone taking their personal time to help fix a project of theirs, as you can see by some of the other posts in this thread.
Anyways, I'm going to bed. Feel free to report this thread if you feel it is violating any forum rules by providing download links to an Amnesia custom story .lang file. If you feel the need, that is.

Well, you clearly don't agree with anything I am saying, so I guess I'll just stop trying. But whether they respond to PM's or not, you really have to ask first. That's my opinion.
