Big Grin  Cpu question

Hi, i am building a gaming/programming computer.
But i have been stuck with these processors:

Inte Core i5 2500k or Intel Core i7 2600k.

I have heard that the i7 would be better for editing videos etc.
but i5 is much cheaper.

So the question is which should i buy? Huh

I7 is better for everything, however with the price differences between I7 and I5 I'd say it's way smarter to get an I5 to save money, the I5's are not that different from the 7's.

Ok thanks for the answer. Smile Maybe still getting i7, it`s better to have more power for future Tongue.

EDIT: Btw what`s the idea of having integrated graphics in the cpu?

RE: Cpu question

More power for the future you say? See in about 5 years when an i7 will probably be cheap as heck.

RE: Cpu question

i5s have been capable of outperforming i7s (i.e. older i7s), but the 2600k will always outperform the 2500k. If you have the money, go with the 2600k.

An increase in video encoding (or decoding) is only possible for video codecs (or editors) that support Intel QuickSync (not all of them do).

No. There's a 2550k, but that excludes the integrated GPU controller.

I should also mention that some motherboards do not make use of the integrated GPU controller. So do your research.

RE: Cpu question

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

i7 --> 9,085 // 290$ ------ 0,031034482758620689655172413793103 (= Performance/price)
i5 --> 6,739 // 209$ ------ 0,032244019138755980861244019138756

The numbers with a lot of decimals is the "power" per dollar, assuming the charts are correct. I'd say buy an i7. The price is still low enough that all of your money go towards performance. It becomes bad when you reach a certain price range, where you'll only earn a few percents of performance for a lot of money.
