Hm, looks like they lowered the overall brightness a bit since the trailer was created. Shame its only the already known locations though.

It would sure start the game with a bang if they went that route. On the other hand, if the horror-meter is already very high at the start of the game, theres not much it can do to heighten the fear later on, is there?
I also think, dreams or not, you'll probably be able to safely explore his house for a bit at the beginning. To set up his character, maybe learn more about him and his family by looking at his belongings, photos, books whatever... all while hearing the faint sound of the machinery below you, slowly getting louder the closer you move to the cellar door.
It would give a nice contrast to the darker environments later on if the game started in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of his no doubt decadently furnished home.
I also just noticed, that the outside environments kinda remind me of the movie Sweeney Todd, with all the smoking industrial chimneys and the dark alleys...
