On topic though, one of the most interesting features to me in horror are companion NPCs. I think that if all NPCs are completely removed it would actually work negatively for the game, since the player will get "numb" to the feeling of being alone quite quickly. Planting NPCs into the game, and getting you attached to them can actually get you more concerned about your situation when something happens to them.
EDIT: Damn I got double ninja'd lol

I was thinking maybe there should not be a sanity system in any more of Frictional's games.
The only sanity you need is your own. Mine went downhill a few times while playing through parts of Amnesia and Penumbra I never knew about.
Anyway, any opinions on my last post I made here? (The one about the guns) Or you all just simply ignored it?

I actually like the sanity system. I feel it links you better with the character's own sense of deteriorating state of mind, and its recovery when you successfully progress.

There's a good reason guns (and weapons) are taken out, they take away the feeling of vulnerability if you can shoot down your enemies. Also if it had limited ammo, you would be going around trying to find ammo rather than immersing yourself.

I'd say guns could work if executed correctly. Nightmare House 2 creeped me out quite a bit even though it had guns it.

EDIT: Damn I got double ninja'd lol I think that would work better than no NPCs. Though my idea had hints of NPCs, I think the 'Red' like scenario (like what you describe as well) would be great.
So your new signature would be: Ninja Kreekakon, the fastest poster in the forum!
I will be better aware from know on of joking about oneself.
