Didn't read all that as I have a lot of school stuff I also need to read but I read a paragraph and I pretty much know what your post is like. I agree; it is superb in almost every way and the mods really add a lot of depth to it.

Not sure if anybody plays it online, but if there are still servers up look for one with the map "crossfire." The most fun I've ever had in an online game; it's awesome.

I really want to play Half-Life 2 but have not finished Half-Life (the first)... is it ok if I skip it? I've tried it but I just can't get through it.

I am not denying the fact that the Half-Life games are good BUT the Half-Life games are some of the most overrated games of all time. I'm not saying I dislike them but I think they get way too much praise and shun other games.

How can you call Half-Life games overrated? Half-Life2 is completely different game than HL1. Less hardcore (no HECU, ufff..., but much more polished. Great physics, nice graphics (face animation!), no cut-scenes (that's why I love Valve and Frictional games).

Oookkkkaaayyyy...I'm not looking to turn this simple question thread into a discussion on the quality of Half Life games. You got your answer, I think we can move on now.

I've played 60% of the first Half-Life game and then I just get bored with it... I am just wondering if I will be missing any key elements before I go onto the new games.

However, I'm going to say that I honestly think the elevating HL1 up onto a pedestal to be...mostly from nostalgia, I'm not saying it's a bad game, it was amazing when it came out but guys really, is it as great as you guys say it is?

No, it isn't

I would say play through HL1 if you can, but skip to HL2 if you can't, which is easily a far more engaging and interesting game then it's predecessor

There is No Such Thing as Nostalgia, in my opinion it is just an excuse made by "Modern Shooter Excusers" to cover up for the fact their precious Call Of Duty games absolutely suck in terms of lifespan, challenge, gameplay, good old entertainment and imagination, compared to games over 15 years old.

Now you can just play Black Mesa and you can play through Half-Life 1 with better graphics and gameplay mechanics.

As I was saying, HL1 just has a certain old-school charm to it, but I'd recommend Black Mesa because it seems better to me. I've played them both.
