Well, of course you could always still pose her "properly" after she is rigged and skinned, so it's no deal breaker but all in all it's just easier to see if the anatomy is correct if the character is standing in a balanced and somewhat natural pose. That's also why I personally prefer a relaxed V-pose like she has to the stiffer T-pose some people use - apart from the fact that it often makes setting up the IK and skinning easier later on Wink

You know, just saying, there's no shame in putting a non-finished piece aside and starting again from scratch, especially when you're not on a deadline. Modeling just takes a ton of practice, especially the hard stuff like anatomy - I have a shitload of practice models lying around that I never finished because I realized halfway through that I took the wrong approach or that the general idea just wasn't as good as I initially thought.
As long as you learned something while creating it, it wasn't a waste of time, even if you throw it away. I mean when you're practising drawing, you don't shade and colorize every little sketch you make to perfection either, right? Same goes for 3D art.

So if you're so sick of this model by now, why not start anew and try another approach (like making a basemesh with front/side references) instead of torturing yourself with this one? Just an idea of course - if you don't like leaving stuff unfinished disregard what I said. Wink

Yeah, I've been contemplating just putting it aside and starting a new one. But I figure going through all of the steps once might help me a lot; basemesh, high poly (anatomy + clothes), retopo, bake just to get some perspective on the entire process and how errors in "the previous step" might hurt the next stage. It would also give me some much needed experience in each stage of character developement.. Then there's also the pleasure of creating something, even if it's imperfect! :]

Contrary to what it sounded like I actually enjoy working on it hehe. Thanks for the input on the T-pose!

Been making some stuff for the TF2 Steam Workshop and I finished modelling a knife for the Spy today. I think it looks quite lovely. <3 Much better than my last weapon...

I'm interested in learning how to model in 3d. Does anyone have any resources/info/tips for someone who is just starting to learn? I'll probably use Blender because its free and stuff, but does anyone know any good modeling software that would be good for starting out?

I reccomend you Blender with Maya presets (Blender with Maya shortcuts and maya controls). Learn the basics, how to model. When you have experience, get the student version of Maya 2011.

I still like Blender. It's a lot more user-friendly, with lots of tutorials and a lot of interesting features. And easy to install Wink
