Haha that would be great ^^ You probably wouldn't even have to check brainwaves, you could use some sort of lie-detector system that measures sweat and heartrate and stuff like that. I also found the system the experimental game
Deep Sea uses quite interesting. Basically, the more panicked you breathe (and you will, because that mask makes it hard to breathe and you become more and more scared), the louder the game will play that breathing back to you, increasing the claustrophobic feeling and making it harder to listen for enemy sounds....
On a more practical note, maybe one could have the game keep track of your behaviour instead and draw conclusions on your mental state from there. Like, say, the game notices you've been mainly hiding in corners for the past 10 minutes and are advancing very slowly, so it assumes you're scared and are expecting a monster encounter...so it ramps up the insanity effects to reflect that. Or it notices you barely use the sneak button and are walking at a brisk pace with no concern for your safety, so it triggers a really mean jumpscare to get you back to a more alert state...
