Honestly. Even though I am the science fiction sucker that I am. The game still looked like the generic fuck that most shooters are for me. I wouldn't try it even if it wasn't an Xbox exclusive.

I just realized that there is this one episode of X-files in season one called "Ice" that has a lot of similarities with the Penumbra games, such as:
Spoiler below!
In the episode "Ice" in the T.V Series X-files there is a breakout of parasitic worms in an isolated research facility in the north. The worms seem to take over the body of it's host, but when hosts/worms come close to each other they end up killing each other at the same time. Under the facility is a Meteorite which has the worms inside, the research team there drilled out core ice samples which had the worms in them. In the episode there is even a dog that get's infected by these worms, but is later cured after a second worm is put inside it.
Another possible inspiration for the Penumbra games other than The Thing?

Well the X-Files episode came after The Thing so I would say that is a common inspiration among both of them. I think you're taking all of the paralells much too literally, in fact, the episode is almost nothing like Penumbra at all. Great episode by the way, one of my favorites so far (been kinda lazy watching it so I'm still in the first season).
