Black Plague crash after menu, Overture and Requiem crash on start 
			 
			
				Hey guys, I took advantage of the $5 deal for Linux this weekend.  I can't wait to try the game out, except I'm running into some stumbling blocks. 
I have an AMD64 processor, 1GB RAM, and an ATI Raedon HD 4870 graphics card with 1GB RAM running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty 64-bit with 32-bit libraries installed. I can play other 3d games no problem, and World of Warcraft using Wine works almost flawlessly.  When I start Black Plague, it looks like it's fine, finishes the intro, gets to the menu, I click on new game, yes to the tutorial, and it crashes bringing me back to the desktop.  I changed the resolution to match the 1280x960 resolution I have and the same thing.  Overture and Requiem crash on start.

				OK after a little digging, I've disabled everything in the ATI Catalyst drivers, including Catalyst AI.  I've dropped everything in Penumbra down to the lowest graphical settings.  I can finally get through to the tutorial and into the game.  The problem is there is a lot of missing textures in different places depending on where I move and how I move.  I don't have time right now to investigate with settings, I'll try to do that when I get home from work in the morning.  But I just wanted to update to say that I at least got it working, but not very pretty nor functional if I can't see things. 
 
I'm just not understanding why I'm having these issues.  This video card is still considered pretty darn good.  In Windows I'd be able to run Crysis with no issues.  Is the ATI Linux driver really that bad still?

				can you try something....  edit the ~/.frictionalgames/Penumbra/Overture/settings.cfg and add these two attributes to the <Graphics/> tag 
 
 ForceFP="GLSLF"  ForceVP="GLSLV" 
 
This will force the GLSL shader language to be used instead of the ARB language.  Then post the hpl.log for overture after slowly increasing your shader quality.
