this pretty much.
Also there are other differences to note when it comes to musicians. For instance, high profile singers like Madonna or Rihanna don`t usually write and compose their music themselve (or at least not alone.). So, they are "performer" and if possible should be seen as such. Madonna does incredible live performances for instance. I am not into her music, but man, if I had 250 bucks I would go to a concert of hers.
If I have to choose I would say "Underground" though...but only because it vastly outnumbers the "mainstream/popular" musicians. Also it is a bit difficult to call the "Distant Worlds" Final Fantasy ~200 piece Orchestra tour "mainstream" or "underground" for example.
I love to listen to anything that evokes emotions in me or tells me something new. That goes for JayZ "Run this Town" as it goes for Noisebazookas "Woolgathering". This doesn`t go for many Heavy Metal bands like Metallica or Amon Amarth because I oversaturated myself for many years being a Metalhead during my teens. It is mostly just noise to men as it has nothing to do with who I am right now. Maybe that changes and I will get all soaked up over screamed songs about Vikings again.
