GOG?
Hi there, just wandering if there's any possibility of one of my favorite series of horror games being sold on GOG?

DRM-free and everything which that entails, no need to open a second piece of software to play the game, plus GOG usually commissions lots of extra content such as concept art, soundtracks, etc. I'd definitely prefer it on GOG if I had the choice.

RE: GOG?
But if you purchase from the frictional games store the game will also be DRM-free.

RE: GOG?
Yea, and there is no extra content that Frictional has kept from us. At least I don't think so. We have the super_secret archive, the soundtrack, development tools, short stories. I mean, all you have to do is actually get all of them.

RE: GOG?
I was speaking generally about the advantage of GOG over Steam, but yeah, buying from Frictional directly is even better!

Errm, do you really need to run Steam to open Amnesia? Can't you just make a shortcut to the actual Amnesia binary? (Seriously asking - since I bought Amnesia off the Ubuntu Software Center, can't really tell.)

You can make a shortcut, but the shortcut opens Steam first haha. No Steam game, to my knowledge and in my own experience at least, can be run without Steam being opened first.
Steam can be set to "Offline Mode" if you don't want to be connected to the net (only after you run the game at least once in "Online Mode") but it still needs to be running regardless.
On top of that many games come with their own "loaders" and DRM-machines, such as most of Ubisoft's games. So you gotta start Steam, run the game's shortcut and then login to the Ubisoft version of Steam before you even see the main menu of the game. It's all very silly and wasteful, both in terms of time and system resources. Steam can easily suck up 190MB+ of RAM just idling and it gets worse the longer it's left open. It's so severe that I often wonder if the system requirements listed for a particular game on the Steam website should have the RAM requirement bumped up an additional 256MB across the board!

When I play these games I have two overlays at the same time Ridiculous.
