Being heartbroken by a girl I deeply loved in a really cruel and despicable way, it took me a whole year to recover.
But well, when comparing this to things other fellow forum members had to go through, I can say life has been kind to me.

My little lovebird died this morning...

I've lost many small pets before: various kinds of birds, a hamster, a guinea pig. And I always cry.

So I can't even imagine how's it going to be when my cats die.
