RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
The system specifications I mean.
I find this error strange, since many other with your card has run it without any problem. I have a thing to check, but I cannot promise anything. It is really annoying to me as well, because everything seems like it should work.
Two more tests:
- Does turning off full screen work?
- How does this test work for you:

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
The test runs and I have attached the output. I will try running it in windowed mode.
Windowed mode does nothing.
System Specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 2.66GHz
GPU: EVGA Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Motherboard: Asus P5K (using onboard Realtek HD audio)
EDIT: I know this probably won't make a difference, but I have downloaded the game from the shelf and will see if it makes any difference. This is most likely wishful thinking on my part.
As expected, no changes.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
ha!
So the darn compatiblity test works!? that is so wierd.
Could it be the launcher that is messing things up? Have you tried running Amnesia.exe directly? If you have steam and if steam does not allow this, download the demo from here:
http://www.amnesiagame.com/#demo
run Amnesia.exe directly and see if it works!
Sorry for all the tests, but that is really the only way we will be able to solve this.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
Launching the game directly does not work either. I re-installed the game through Steam earlier before downloading the game from here. I'm going to try the demo just for kicks to see if it works. Watch it work, that would be the icing on the cake.
EDIT: Ok, the demo is doing the same thing. At least there's some consistency.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
setting resolution to 640x480, with fullscreen off? Does that work?
Trying to narrow down what difference between test and game that messes stuff up.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
No change. It's starting to look like I may just have to see if a friend won't let me steal his PC for a few hours. Some combinations of settings used to work (by that I mean let me into the game), but now it seems changing them does nothing. Later I'm going to try cleaning out the video drivers again and see if somehow it will miraculously start working in any fashion.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
It doesn't. I appreciate all the help, but it just looks like this game has become self-aware and does not like me. I would hate to take up any more of your time on this issue, as you probably have more important things that need taken care of.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
I'm having the same problem. I'll turn the computer on, launch the game, sometimes it gives the Renderer #0 error, so I have to launch it again. I set my settings in the launcher, but the game forgets them. I set them in-game, restart, the FPS is HORRIBLE. I'm using the 1680 x 1050 resolution, which seems to be key to the problem. I have a decent card (Nvidia GTX 260), so that isn't the problem. I found that if I disable my second monitor and Aero, the game runs well after a reboot ( > 90 FPS ). After a variable amount of time however, the game slows back down ( < 25 FPS, or sometimes < 5 FPS ). Restarting the game doesn't help at that point, only a full reboot. I'll get a log if that would help.
Also, I have the newest nVidia Driver, the newest version of DirectX, OpenAL, everything that you seem to think is the problem. The problem is definitely in YOUR code. I've never had a problem like this with any game, even with those utilizing OpenGL.

RE: Renderer #0 failure bug.
How many of those of you who are having this error using multiple monitors?
