graphics card

hey, so i downloaded steam and the game, i can get to the launch screen where you can change graphics settings etc. but when i click 'play game', the screen goes black and then it says 'not enough drawbuffers' or something like that. i have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 with recently updated driver, it supports directX9. is the graphics card not powerful enough?
