Orb absorbing bug (Possible spoiler for some!)

So, I'm near the end of the game, have that darn head, all the orb pieces and the tar! I use the tar, orb pieces and put it all together... The shiny string of plot development flows to the orb and...

Nothing happens... The barrier is still there and the blue string is still flowing to the orb and it doesn't end. I've tried reloading and loading up earlier saves and the problem is still there!

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

EDIT: Found out what I had to do, I missed to disable the machinery, if I only had thought about looking at the notes...
