As far as concepts go, I love the idea. It would make exploring the oceans and studying the life in the sea much more exciting. At times I try to look for Megalodon/Great White Shark mersharks (as sharks are my favorite sea species).

As far as if mermaids of form are real or not, the ocean is largely unexplored so it could be possible. Just look at the Giant Squid. For the longest time scientists only say it in old stories and laughed at the concept of it being real... until they saw the dead bodies. It took last year just for us to actually record them in their natural habitat (documentary of this coming the 27 on NatGeo). So could a mermaid shaped sea critter live in the ocean/deep ocean... I think so. (I look forward to seeing one if it exists down in the depths. That and any monsters that could lurk there as well).

I was watching a documentary on Nat Geo about these people who claim they found a mermaids remains and the Government took it off them. How credible it was I don't know though.... I always have my doubts. But you look at all the ancient drawings of mermaids and stuff and its nice to think.

Heard of that documentary, but never saw it beyond some images online. It is nice to imagine what lives in our unexplored oceans. I will definitely add it to my list of things to hope are in the unexplored oceans.

List of sea creatures that could be in the unexplored ocean

1: Megalodons (though they'd be a differenct coloration that traditional sharks, and living near warm zones like hydrothermal vents. Albinos most likely, like this fanart I found online http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/2...5bkmaw.jpg )

2: Dukleosteus (as its habitat changed against their favor, they could have swam to deeper waters to survive. Fanart of a Dunk found online http://th01.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/20...4ktwfe.png )

3: Mermaid-looking sea critters

4: giant carnivorous worms (predatory sea worms like the bobbit worm are known, and invertebrates living very deep down do tend to be bigger than their shallower counterparts. Fanart of one found online here http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment....1273621114 )

5: [Fill in your thoughts here Smile]

I remember watching that documentary. Everything seemed relatively credible until the moment that clip came on. I called bullshit at that very second.
