I think the consensus here is that while what Justin said was insensitive (Depending on the person reading it) it was a joke, and he is being massively over-punished.

Seriously, I think the highest form of "justified" punishment for what he did is apologizing for the comment. I can't think of anything more harsh than that without is seeming like over-punishment.
