You can probably do ctrl-alt f1, then pidof penumbra then kill -9 PID and exit to get out of the game and back to the desktop.

Do you have the latest graphics drivers for you card?

Thanks, I'm using the Ubuntu 9.04 native drivers, as far as I know those are the best for this version. I will try with the 9.3 Catalysts tomorrow.

Another piece of info: I can run the Penumbra Black Plague Tutorial but it freezes randomly every time I try it. Specially after the combining items part.
