Faceless Abominations

Worms.

I believe a fear of worms is a common phobia. From evolutionary psychology, some of us gained a fear of worms probably to develop aversion to parasites. I know it's not rational to impose human characteristics upon other animals and objects, but I can't help but think there's something deeply disturbing about this creature.

The way worms look and behave reminds me of a man zipped up in a straightjacket, his nose and eyes and ears removed. Until the day he dies, the man will do nothing but squirm and wriggle around as if trying to break free of the straightjacket. He cannot hear, smell, or see. He'll just writhe forever under that straightjacket, crawling around to reach an aimless destination and being completely unaware of everything around him.

Does anyone feel this way about worms or any other things in the universe?
