I edited the pic a bit and i can see other things when increased brightness. Just set your gamma/brightness alot higher.

"WTH? I downloaded those new drivers, installed them, restarted PC, but after restart, the colors where at 4 bit! and a crappy resolution"
This means you didnt install the new drivers correctly.
btw if installing new drivers or putting gamma/brightness higher doesnt work.
Try this compatibility test out

Report back if everythings good or if some frames didnt render correctly.
No, it's not a gamma problem. Things are missing.
Do the compatibility test and see if everythings good. IF everythings good then id suggest properly installing new drivers. Uninstall the old drivers within windows first, then download driver cleaner, once finished. Reboot into safemode and use drivercleaner to erase all traces of old video card drivers. After that , boot up into windows and install new drivers. Make sure you pick the correct one for your Vc. Dont get the desktop 8600gt drivers, u need the Mobility ones.

I alredy tried that and I see the same. Ermm.... those are still pitch black graphics... You can still see the same, but with more power, also the smoke down there, but the texture of the walls and other thinngs are missing!
So it does that even in the compability test?. Might be a driver or hardware problem then. The devs will have to help you on this one.
