However, I would HIGHLY recommend using HPL2 (Amnesia). HPL1 is incredibly outdated and almost beyond support now.

No problem. There's pretty extensive tutorials on HPL2 there, and a common visitor to the forums Mugbill (or Mudbill) has a YouTube channel with a lot more tutorials which should help you get into scripting and learning a few tricks with the editors.
