Game crashes constantly straight to desktop

The game loads fine, I'll start playing, and within 5 minutes or so it'll kick me straight to desktop, but never in exactly the same place. Sometimes I can get pretty far, other times it'll crash right away, but it happens often enough that the game is unplayable. It's not vsync or triple buffering because I've tried it with and without. I also have the latest drivers for my video card. In case it matters, I used to have this problem with Penumbra too, but not nearly as often. Any help on this would be appreciated, because right now I feel pretty ripped off. $20 down the drain if I can't get this fixed.
