Poor performance on an awesome machine

well this seems to be present in the BIG BUG thread :

FRAMES-PER-SECOND ISSUES

STILL NEEDS TESTING (1.0.1) Vanilla * Occasional drop in frames-per-second when entering the Escape menus or when resuming the game.

however i'd like to add that this issue renders the game near unplayable. Since it's not just a little drop in fps, but slows it down to like 5 fps after a while, and it becomes a difficulty to try and move then cursor around to exit the game.

Oh and to the last poster, this is literally the first problem i've had with ANY game so far.
